Garlic is the edible bulb from a plant in the Lily family. It  was traditionally used for health purpose by people in many parts of the world. Through history, many different cultures have recognized the potential use of garlic for prevention and treatment of different disease.

It is the most important ingredient in about every kitchen. Its intense flavor and aroma make it mainstay in cooking tradition around world.

Garlic grows underground in a bulb, and enclose about 10 to 20 cloves i.e. individual bud or section of garlic. These cloves are covered with thin papery skin. One clove of garlic contains manganese, selenium, vitamin B6, vitamin C, etc. and more other compounds that benefits health.

Many study suggest that taking garlic supplements everyday may reduce total cholesterol and low density lipoprotein ( LDL) cholesterol levels in the people with high levels of these blood lipids.

Some studies support the proposal that garlic consumption have scientific effects on lowering blood pressure, reduction of serum cholesterol and triglycerides. Garlic can prevent blood clotting, thus can prevent of atherosclerosis. Ist regular consumption can help to prevent varicose veins.

Garlic and its preparations have widely been recognized as agents for prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

It has been suggested that garlic is having  prostaglandin-like effects,  and therefore it helps reduce high blood pressure.

Different compounds in garlic are thought to reduce the risk for cardiovascular diseases as well as have anti-tumor and anti-microbial effects, and show benefits on high blood glucose concentration.

Allicin is a compound present in the garlic. This allicin is having anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Allicin is not activated unless it is crushed or cut, so when cook with garlic do not forget to crush or cut the garlic.

According to one study, those who routinely eat garlic, fruits and vegetables, may at 35% lower colon cancer risk. It is also showed that garlic oil works as an anti- inflammatory and can be apply at inflamed and swollen joints or muscles.

Garlic also fights against fungus, it is useful in athlete's foot. Foot if soaked in garlic water or raw garlic is rubbed on feet, it may help reduce the itching and fungal infection. This may be because after crush of garlic clove it produce some sulfur compound.

Garlic's health benefits are plenty, but too much garlic should not be consumed, or it may cause discomfort, including upset stomach, bloating, diarrhea, body odor and bad breath.

On rare occasion, garlic supplements can cause headaches, fatigue, appetite loss, muscle aches, dizziness allergic reactions such as asthma attacks or skin rashes.

We can get a benefit from garlic by eating 2-3 cloves per day. Study suggests that garlic with high dose has the potential ability to induce liver damage but low doses are safe.

A minerals present in garlic, called selenium can cleanse the liver. It can trigger liver enzymes, and naturally flush out the many toxins from the body.

Garlic supplements may interfere with the effectiveness of some drugs, including saquinavir ( a drug used to treat HIV infection), and may interfere with other dietary herbs.

Many times after pilling garlic or after crushing it leaves some strong odor to our hands. By washing hands with baking soda will be helpful to remove that bad smell.
