Is Sweet Corn Good For Weight Loss ?

 


    Sweet corn is favorite for all age people, be it boiled or roasted. Children love to eat sweet corn in any form, as in veg roll, in pizza, burger, etc.

    Whenever people go for outing, in weekends or in evening for a walk, they prefer to eat sweet corn as a evening snack. 

    Whole grain cereal is as healthy as other cereals. They contain carbohydrates, vitamins, antioxidants and many minerals. Corn flour and Corn flakes are more used products the grain. 

Nutritional Value - 

  • It is a rich supplier of antioxidants, and thus help antiaging process.
  • Sweet corn is rich in carbohydrates and starch. Though carbohydrates are good source of energy, as they get converted in glucose. Your body converts excess of glucose in to fats in the process of fatty acids synthesis. 
  • Being rich with carbohydrates, about 100 grams of corn gives 20 to 25 gm of carbohydrates. It is not suggested for the patient of diabetes mellitus to enjoy sweet corn.
  • It is not always bad to eat sweet corn. They are one of the good source of dietary fibers and thus eating corn can help weightloss to some extent. 
  • Enjoying corn-chaat as dinner help lose weight. Prepare corn chaat with boiled sweet corn kernel, a pinch of black pepper, some lemon juice and a pinch of chilly and enjoy the taste.
  • With antioxidants, sweet corn provides lots of vitamin A and therefore it is a healthy eating for your skin and eyes. Vitamin A helps improve your vision.
  • It contains vitamin E and if the paste of grain is applied to face, it helps increase face beauty and remove acne scar.
  • It is included in energy boosting food. Athletes and fitness oriented people are suggested to add  sweet corn in their regular diet.
  • A good source of vitamin B12, and thus important for nerves health. Those suffering from nerves disorders can add sweet corn in their diet. Thus it also help to prevent megaloblastic anemia.
Bad Effects - 
  • Raw eating of sweet corn may cause stomach bloating and produce gases. 
  • It is a very poor source of calcium and therefore those depending on sweet corn as diet can show symptoms of calcium deficiency.
  • Sweet corn is low protein and high sugar content food, therefore not suggestive for calorie conscious people.
